This solid mahogany heavily carved pedestal plant stand is a new reproduction of a style made popular during the Victorian period. Victorian refers to a time period rather than a particular style. The Victorian period fell between 1837 through 1901. The industrial revolution allowed for the mass production of furniture and styles from earlier periods were drawn upon. Heavy ornamentation is a hallmark of the Victorian period. The top plate is decorated with a border of carved acanthus leaf and vine and continues on the bottom of this plate and to the next ring. The carving continues with the shell motif with four shells at this level and four more at the bottom, separated by fluted and reeded pedestal stalk. The finish is a rich deep mahogany stain, hand rubbed, satin smooth.
