This solid mahogany Davenport writing desk is
a new reproduction. The first desk of this type was made by the English firm of
Gillow for a Captain Davenport in the late 18th century. The sloping writing
surface is supported by carved cabriole legs resting on bun feet and lifts to
reveal an abundance of hand dovetailed serpentine front drawers. The top lid
lifts to reveal open space used to house ink wells and quills for writing and is
fitted with a black, tooled leather writing surface. There are two banks of 4
dovetailed drawers on each side of the desk for filing away all your papers. The
raised panel front, back and top along with the dovetailed and hand chamfered
drawers are a testament to the quality. This davenport writing desk is finished
in a rich antique brown stain and the wood used is solid mahogany. |
