This outstanding solid mahogany Louis Phillipe partners desk is a new reproduction of a style made popular during the rule of King Louis Phillipe in 1831, Paris, France. Louis Philippe, who had gained his crown largely by his championship of the freedom of the press and champion of the bourgeoisie, was driven in desperation to sanction the famous September laws, which virtually strangled its liberty. The paneled desk top has three naugahyde inserts with gold tooled borders. The upper apron has drapery swag, bell flower carvings and sea breeze moldings, accenting the side panels, which, have regal wreath carvings, surrounding the flame mahogany inset with ribbon grain banding. The corner pilasters are all decorated with lion heads and bell flower carvings, finish with carved hairy paw feet and are functional in opening the cupboard doors. Each door opens to reveal a bank of drawers on opposite corners and slide out file holders on the other two sides. The finish is a warm nutty brown mahogany stain, hand rubbed, satin smooth. |
