This solid mahogany library drop leaf sofa table is a new reproduction of one made during the Regency period 1811 - 1820. During the early 1800's there was an intense revival of interest in the antiquities. This ecclectic style became popular during the period when George IV ruled as "regent" for his father, George III. Thus, the name English Regency was applied to this style of furniture. The drop sides are supported by a wooden butterfly hinge and the top houses two pull out drawers with dovetail joints as a testament to the quality. The base has two wooden stalks with two sweeping legs at each end and finish with brass toes and casters. This Regency Drop Leaf Sofa Table is finished in a rich antique brown stain and the wood used is solid mahogany. |
