This solid mahogany Duncan Phyfe style lyre base console table is a new reproduction of a style made popular in the late 1700s. Phyfe employed in general the highest standards, applied under supervision to carefully selected woods, like mahogany. His first furniture designs are characterized by excellent proportions, graceful curves often accentuated by parallel rows of reeding, simple ornaments well placed and carved with precision, and decorative motifs such as the lyre, the acanthus or oak leaf, and the drapery swag. Although much furniture termed Phyfe may not have been produced in his workshop, his designs were the nucleus of the Duncan Phyfe style. This solid mahogany, graceful curved legs are supported by the elegant lyre motif. The lyre, or two sided harp is crisply carved and features solid brass strings and forks. There are two drawers with hand dove tail and solid brass hardware, as a testament to the quality. This Duncan Phyfe lyre base console table is finished in a rich antique brown stain and the wood used is solid mahogany. |
